What audacity! What are you doing here in my temple? The graveyard is where you belong!

An Exhaustive History and Explanation of the Temple

Welcome to your doom! This is my totally 90's personal webzone that I started putting together some years ago. The initial idea was pretty simple. The dawn of the internet coincided with the VS series, which wasn't distributed in the US because of... a bunch of stupid bullshit. You know how it is, but that's neither here nor there. The point is that it was extremely difficult to keep up with the series at that point because the internet didn't exist, so everything had to come from fanzines like G-Fan which you... couldn't find anywhere! Nobody carried it! It was a complete nightmare, and something that's difficult to explain if you never lived in the time before the information age where just the ability to know... anything, was never taken for granted. You had to take what little you could get, and sometimes that meant finding a book by Steve Ryfle or Ed Godziew... y'know, that guy, at Borders or Barnes & Noble or w/e, sometimes it meant you got lucky and found a place that still had a single issue of G-Fan.
But then the internet happened, so we had one more source of info: a bunch of dumb idiots with access to a soapbox. And so the internet remains to this day! But, of course, the format is different. People don't list the stats of the monsters in green text on a black background anymore, they list them in "wikis." You get it. The point is, during that period, the dawn of the information age was intertwined with the culture of being a self-identified "G-Fan" and so, unsurprisingly for a million other reasons, my memories and nostalgia for the time when the internet was made up of people rather than corporations is almost entirely composed of looking at 128 pixel jpegs from a new Godzilla movie that I may or may not ever even get to see.
Of course, when that era of the internet started to fade away into the forum era during the 2000's, the old sites fell into ruin. Barry's Temple, Ramsin Tamaraz's site, RC2000's site, Godzilla Tower, Queen Ghidorah, that weird Gigan furry site, and Conster's... idunno, manifesto? Many of them stopped updating after Zilla, some made it all the way to Godzilla 2000, and a very few made it all the way out to Final Wars, but by the 12 year gap all that remained was what Geocities forgot to take down. I suppose it doesn't make much of a difference either way, raw info is raw info, but the juxtaposition of wanting to see the stats of Mechagodzilla City listed in plain Times New Roman in hacker green text below a crusty jpeg just... idunno. This site was what it was, a nostalgia-based hobby I would spend time futzing with every so often.
But Neocities is a pretty fucking shit place to try and make a website. By which I mean, they offer no tools to do so whatsoever. Want to make your own Angelfire-like? Tough shit, asshole, go learn html from scratch, fuck you, Baltimore! Oh, I'm soary, I should be more fair, Neocities DOES give users A tool: notepad. So you can type every single tag and closing tag out by hand if you want. And guess what that means? That means you need time an energy to fuck with that, so, it's not getting done. The last time I tried to update my website was when I added my Dino Squad Power Rangers section as a bit to create pages for my AD&D 2nd edition conversion of Zordon's Homebrew Campaign Setting, which, uhhh... was just never going to happen.
Another thing is that what was actually special aboot those old Hypnospace pages wasn't just a list of facts. I mean, any idiot can throw up an html page that says "did you know Godzilla is 50 meters tall? Oh, you did? Hm... well..." No what made those sites truly special was the personal expression in the margins aroond the subject. I don't remember a damn thing aboot how many stars Conster gave each movie, but I know she wrote midis and short stories and was fucking sick of dumb idiots who thought the Heisei era ended prior to 2019, and just generally had a rude 'tude. I remember that RC made a whole extra section of his webzone dedicated to dinosaurs, which was the first place I ever read aboot the difference between ornithiscians and saurischians. I remember little baby Tomzilla's crayon drawings they kept submitting to Ramsin Tamaraz's site, and honestly compared to some of the rank 3D stuff on that page, it was pretty clear they had a future. So yes, cynically, this page looks like this because I just wanted to make a cute little side project purely based on nostalgia. But then, once I really got started, it became something more, and that's when I kept hitting this wall, realizing I was never really going to make this place what I wanted to be if I kept fucking aroond with nothing but an online version of notepad.
So, after an extremely, EXTREMELY difficult journey, I have finally finished my quest and found the ONLY viable software for developing websites offline: a pirated copy of Dreamweaver 2015. It doesn't fuck up my html code when loading the file, it has a wysiwyg editor, that you can view in split screen with the raw html code, IN A VERTICAL LAYOUT, and it supports Japanese characters, and you are allowed to manually set ctrl+U as the hot key for underlining text... in a fucking text editor. Someday I may tell of this horrific journey into the bowels of hell to find this program, but that's a tale for another time. Now I can directly manage my own files offline easily, edit multiple pages much faster, and when I get to a point I'm ready to update, I can push everything out to Neocities' servers with... an entirely different program. It's a whole fucking thing. And so I have refocused my efforts on making this less of a copypaste of information you can find on any wiki these days, and more on it being my space for my monster. And that means bringing my relatively recently full embracing of my role as a priestess of Godzilla to the world wide web.

So sniff the cave fumes, peruse the ancient texts, and read the tea leaves with me as we wait out our remaining 89 seconds until I summon my god from the depths to wipe out the festering remnants of this evil fuckshit suicidal civilization of history's worst mistake. And maybe, just maybe, you'll learn something along the way.
