History: The 2nd generation Gorosaurus was presumably discovered on Mondo Island, and moved to Monsterland sometime before 1971. It lived there in peace with the other monsters, growing to the size of Godzilla after being exposed to the other monster's radioactivity3, up until the Kilaakian's invasion of 1994. It was sent, with Baragon, to destroy Paris. Control was eventually broken and reverse engineered by the Earthlings, who moved Gorosaurus and the other Monsterland monsters to the area of the Kilaakian's new base in the Izu springs. The Kilaakians summoned King Ghidorah, and Gorosaurus was instrumental in taking the monster down once and for all. After the climactic battle, Gorosaurus returned to Monsterland and lived out the rest of its days in peace with the other monsters, once again.

Notes
1 - The stock footage depicting Monster Island - presumably in the present day - in Godzilla versus Gigan is, uh... really confusing for continuity. Obviously pre-home video audiences of the time weren't really meant to go over this stuff with a fine tooth comb and even the filmmakers barely paid attention to this stuff, so it's not like the discrepancies are a problem for the film itself, it's only now in the age of "cinematic universes" when people like me give a damn. The main problems are Minilla and Mothra... and the problems there are so glaring you almost need to throw out the stock footage altogether. However, in the context of the scene, what's actually being conveyed here is that 1. Monster Island exists, 2. all of the currently known and remaining Earth monsters live there, and 3. the characters are all aware of this. We know why the aliens have this info, but the fact that Gengo also knows all aboot Monster Island tells the audience that it's an established thing by now. With that in mind, the stock footage probably doesn't represent a literal comprehensive list of all of Monster Island's residents, but rather a vague idea of what a civilian's knowledge would be. In that sense, the Son of Godzilla footage makes sense in the context of the hypothesis of Monster Island being Solgell Island from that film after it thaws. Rodan is also on Monster Island in Megalon so this is consistent, so that just leaves Mothra and Gorosaurus without explanation. Gorosaurus, fortunately, is easy, since we know a second one exists that appears in DAM, so basically my interpretation of the stock footage in Gigan is "the public is aware that there is a second Gorosaurus living on Monster Island" at the time of the film.
2 - No updated stats were ever given for the second Gorosaurus, despite the fact that it's obviously the same size as Godzilla on screen during DAM. But because we know it's 50m tall, and because the proportions are the same, we can figure out the length. The original Gorosaurus is 35m long counting the height, or body length, plus a 15 meter long tail. This means the tail is 75% of the body length, so that if the larger Gorosaurus is 50m tall, the tail length is 37.5m, giving it a full length of 87.5m. For the weight, 50 is 2.5 times 20, and 2.5 timmes 8k is 20k, which is the same as the weight of the Godzilla it co-stars with. That's not really how weight works, but that it comes out the same is a pretty solid stopping point for me, at least.
3 - This is speculation, I don't think it's explicitly said anywhere. It's a reasonable assumption given that Gorosaurus is a dinosaur kaiju in a Toho movie, but there's another possibility, too. It could be that Gorosaurs just naturally get that big, and the reason the one on Mondo Island was smaller was because of its diet. The evidence for this is the Kong seen in the same movie, which is much smaller than the one from King Kong versus Godzilla. That 1st generation Kong also drank the Farolacton juice which put it to sleep, but that giant octopus was going after it too, so it seems like all the giant monsters on the island are into the stuff. Likewise, King Kong in Toho movies is never said to be a product of radiation, he's just... big. Kumonga is similar, although we're never told how big Kumonga was before the storm - or if it was different at all - even the smaller Kamacuri were too big to breathe if they were ordinary arthropods, so there's something weird going on there, too. Solgell Island also has this "red water" stuff, which cures island madness, and just visually looks a lot like Farolacton juice. This is a much bigger rabbit hole I won't get into here, but basically what I'm saying is I think these non-radiovore monsters that just happen to be naturally big got that way from some kind of... stuff. Archetype, perhaps? I single out the radiation thing because that's the X factor, we know that variable changed because there were no nuclear reactors on Mondo Island for the monsters to eat. We don't know for sure if the Monster Island seen in '71 is Solgell Island, although I am almost certain of it, but with what we do know it seems significant Gorosaurus is living on an island with Anguirus, Rodan, Baragon, and TWO Godzillas. After all, whatever was making the Kamacuri big, the radiation still made them even bigger, so I think it's safe to say that if you're a monster that's already big because of magic juice, you're probably also going to be affected by radiation.
